Today is Thanksgiving Day here in the US. It is a day filled with football, food and family. The most overlooked part of Thanksgiving Day is the whole idea of giving thanks to the people or things you are thankful for in your life. I would just like to use this post to offer a few thanks.
First, I would like to say thank you to my family and friends for being so insanely supportive of my business. I know I have not said it much, but it really means a lot to me that I have a strong support group that backs my every move when running a business. I especially want to thank my wife, Courtney. I can’t think of many women out there who would not flip out when their husband spends $100 on a piece of plastic that goes over a flash that they will probably never use or when I say I want to buy a $2,000 lens she doesn’t scoff at the idea. Without these people in my life, I probably would’ve given up on the idea of becoming a wedding photographer a long time ago. Thank you!
Second, I would like to thank the new era of photographers out there who do not view other photographers as their mortal enemy or competition but as friends and co-workers. The industry has been changing from a photographer’s perspective in a very good way. No longer are photographers keeping their methods and practices a secret in fear of losing potential business to photographers that can offer the same thing as them. Things are changing, ideas are being shared and built on. The goal has changed from running a successful business into creating a stronger industry. We are all waking up to the realization that the better everyone in the industry is, the better it is for everyone. Without this changing of the guard, I would not know what I know today. The freedom of information is so extensive in the photography community that you do not need to go to an art college to learn the advances techniques used to create dramatic imagery. I would just like to say thanks to all the people who are the driving force behind this change. The Chase Jarvis, Zack Arias and David Hobbys of the world are making the photography industry better as whole by sharing their experience and knowledge with everyone. Also, the other wedding photographers out there who are willing to answer any question without fear of being mauled for sharing trade secrets, thank you, without you I would not be as successful as I am today.
Lastly, I would like to thank each one of my past and future clients. Most people, when hiring a wedding photographer do not look at the intricacies as what goes on in our mind. They just know they need someone there to capture their day so they can remember it for years to come. However, from my perspective, I see it as a brave act. Not many people will invite someone into their lives for one of the most important moments of their life. When you hire a wedding photographer you are inviting a stranger in to be next to you in extremely emotional moments, embarrassing moments, funny moments and exciting moments. In the past few years I’ve been witness to many amazing moments that I had the honor of being able to capture for a lifetime. So I would like to say thank you, to all my past and future clients. Thank you for allowing me to come into your life at a pivotal moment, as a complete stranger, and stand by watching moments unfold in front of me and allowing me to preserve those moments for generations.
Thank you for molding me into whom I am today, thank you for allowing me to be creative and thank you for being supportive. I look forward to many more years capturing life as it unfolds before me.
Thank you.
