Stacey & Eric’s Creative Natural History Museum Wedding

Stacey and Eric both work for Disney. These two are super talented and just AMAZING! They were married in November at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. I love when couples really incorporate themselves and the theme that they are going for into their entire wedding. See, Stacey and Eric are both artists and they chose to bring that part of themselves into their special day. There were small and large nods to that skill all over the place. I mean, check out those centerpieces which were all drawn by the couple and the lanterns made by Eric’s parents. The cake topper… was also made! As were the programs, menus, the place cards, which were actually badges that the guests could wear and had all different museum themed titles on them, and then the wooden magnets that were of the guest’s names given as favors at the end of the night. Simply stunning. This wedding was also coordinate by the always fab, Rebel Belle Weddings. The crew there are superstars!

Congrats S&E!

Vanna & Adam’s Sneaky Las Vegas Strip Engagement Session

We tell all of our couples just how difficult it is to work on the Las Vegas Strip these days. Security at the hotels seems to pick and choose when and just how aggressive they want to be toward photographers. Perfect example was this last weekend Mike and I had a wedding off-strip, but the couple was staying at the Bellagio so that was where we had parked. As we were waiting with the couple for the limo to come pick the four of us up, Mike had a flash on a stand over his shoulder and our cameras were on both of our shoulders. We weren’t taking photos, nor were we even thinking about doing so because we were by all of the taxi cabs. A security guard walks up to Mike and says, “Excuse me sir, we don’t allow professional photography.” Mike turns around and goes, “Yeah, we know. We are waiting for a car.” I kid you not, that lady was like a hawk on us until we left. Then when we came back to get our car, I had the light over my shoulder and as soon as we walked in the door, a different security guard followed us all the way to the parking garage to make sure we were leaving. I’m never lying folks when I tell you all about the craziness that is the security on the Las Vegas Strip! Why does any of that pertain to this situation? Well, Vanna and Adam really wanted to shoot their e-session on the Strip. I actually couldn’t attend this one so it was just Mike and the couple, but they were able to be stealth enough to sneak by the Venetian. We typically highly recommend NOT doing this, but that particular day, it worked for them so they were able to get some fun stuff done without being hassled. I was bummed that I couldn’t be there for the engagement session, but I was there for the wedding… THAT awesomeness is coming soon to a blog near you…

Cassandra & Logan’s Grim Reaper Officiated Halloween Wedding

Cassandra and Logan’s wedding day was on Halloween. Yep. HALLOWEEN! And not only did they choose that stellar date, but they also chose to be married by the Grim Reaper himself. Hey, if you’re going to go for it, then just GO FOR IT! Cassandra got ready at a hotel downtown, which is where we ended up having our first look. The details for their wedding day kind of made it even more awesome. Cassandra got Logan a fancy watch instead of a ring and he had no clue. In fact, he didn’t end up seeing it until she put it on his wrist during the ceremony. There were flask garters, as well as some kick ass shoes involved. They were married at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel. This chapel is pretty awesome in that they do themed weddings, as well as allowing outside photographers (something a lot of chapels do not allow). After the ceremony, we took them around the chapel, before checking out the SLS Hotel. Security that day was minimal so we snuck up to the conference area while we had a chance. We ended up at the Art’s District at the end but not before crashing the patio of some random mansion. (Mike loves doing shit like that.) It ended up being a really fun day!

Congrats C & L!

Cassandra & Logan’s Fun and Messy Engagement Session

When talking to Cassandra about her engagement session, we knew we wanted to do something fun to get her and Logan out of their shell. I recommended something interactive so it would make them more comfortable when it came to being in front of the camera. It ended up being a huge success and they had such a great time! We ended up doing this session about 2 days before their wedding so it definitely helped out with the nerves! Stay tuned for their wedding!

Kate & Jeremy’s Las Vegas Magical Mansion Reception

Kate and Jeremy came to Vegas from Australia to tie the knot. They chose their reception location as the 2810 Estate. It is a gorgeous house with a killer backyard which is where they chose to hold the party, but first, they had to get hitched. They chose the Wynn as their ceremony location before we headed out to take photos. Since we are super behind in blogging (this is an October wedding), so we were able to go out to the desert and have gorgeous weather. After we took photos we headed back to the mansion for a couple around the huge backyard. The pool at that mansion was insane! It was so large that at one point, there was actual sand and a beach area. Their guests gathered and they had a plated meal, dancing, and a gorgeous cake from Freed’s. It was an intimate wedding day amongst friends and family and a gorgeous day for this sweet couple.

Congrats K&J!

Mary & Mike’s Los Angeles Retro Sci-Fi Reception at Union Station

…and here is the much anticipated day 2 of Mary and Mike’s amazing wedding weekend. Every once in awhile we will have a wedding or a reception that will really WOW us and this one was exactly that. Laura, at Rebel Belle Weddings, along with Megan and her crew transformed the Fred Harvey Room at Union Station in LA, into something totally out of this world- literally. For months leading up to this event we had spoken with Laura about how big this event was going to be and yet finally seeing it in person just blew our minds. The theme of the evening was felt throughout the venue. All of the props that are pictured below were created by Megan and Laura at RBW. Nothing short of spectacular!

Mary’s words sum up the event way better than I ever could:
“The following Saturday was the biggest day, despite everything from the day before. We allowed ourselves a sleep in, and then got busy transforming ourselves for our Reception Party. By the time we committed to this costumed retro sci-fi vision, we knew we’d need hair and makeup to match. Mike went from normal haircut to mohawk, Drew Bird, our costumer, dressed us in her vision, and Jennifer Corona set us up marvelously with airbrushed face paint and Chromalights for our hair.

All gussied up as Galactic King and Queen, we headed to Union Station early for some photo ops. (Pro tip: if you look like something out of a modern Buck Rodgers, do not expect to get away unnoticed at a public train station during a post-USC football game rush hour.) For the party itself, we were expecting around 130 people starting at 8PM. We planned for more of a glamorous themed Hollywood party, so we informed folks to eat ahead of time, and plan for passed appetizers and an open bar at the venue. What was less widely known was that we had a few tricks to keep the party moving to our 2AM end time. In addition to Summit Event Catering’s scrumptious almond bread pudding, we also hired SuperCool creamery to create liquid nitrogen ice creams from scratch, and we added in a late night taco stand that would magically appear at midnight.

We envisioned something of an adult carnival for the Reception, and so we planned for stations where people could entertain themselves throughout the night. We had a dance floor, naturally, but we also had some extra things up our sleeves. We hired some lovely folks to be our “Honor Guard” and act as general costumed merry makers, or party pushers, if you will. We had someone doing Turkish coffee grounds reading towards the quieter end of the venue, next to our In Memorium. We had someone I had seen at an earlier Lucent Dossier party host his headphoned Leisure Listening Lounge just outside the front door. We had the man-in-the-moon Photo Booth with our personalized muppets as props. We had Jennifer Corona set up a makeup station for any friends who didn’t think we were serious when we said, “themed wedding reception.” We also had a laptop and headphones where people who wanted to view the recorded ceremony could do so. We had an area filled with simple and classic board games. We had an open bar with frikkin’ laser beams and specialty themed cocktails. We tried to cover everything we could think of and most things people couldn’t.”

Congrats to MB squared and thanks for an out of this world experience!

The evening was definitely a night to remember along with the best cast of vendors in LA!

Mary & Mike’s Urban Los Angeles Mohawk Bend Wedding

This two day event starts here…

Mary and Mike were introduced to us through Rebel Belle Wedding Planner, Laura. We have bragged about Laura many times before and the next two posts will be no different. She is simply the best in the business and this wedding was one that showed exactly what she and her right hand woman, Megan are capable of.

So day 1 was the ceremony at a restaurant called, Mohawk Bend in LA. The restaurant has a very cool feel to it with its brick decor, vinyl booths, craft sodas, beers, and delicious food. It really is a great venue. Mary and Mike were married in a wide room with skylights and a fire place, with the splash of color being Mary’s amazing dress; it was perfect. They exchanged personal vows and had a very touching ceremony. Following the ceremony, they had a short and sweet reception. It was a chance for guests to eat and chat. MB Squared, as they are now famously known, also started a new tradition of cake forking. They had a cake and a bunch of forks. They walked the room, guests took their own fork and then took a bite. It was a pretty cool day leading into an all-out epic weekend.

To be continued…

Danielle & Shaggy’s Irish Pub Wedding Soirée

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these two! There have been a handful of people that we have met over these last 6 years that have become some of my very best friends in the world. Danielle and Shaggy are such great people and while, just FB friends at the moment, I would go out on a creeper limb and say, I’d love to be Danielle’s Vegas BFF. 😉

During the wedding planning process, Danielle and I chatted up how the day would go and I think it ended up even better. She got ready at the Planet Hollywood before the ceremony in their chapel. PH is one of the few strip hotel chapels that will allow an outside photographer- for a fee. But still, the option does exist! Following a super sweet first look and ceremony, I rode with the couple on the Double Decker Bus before they departed and we took them around to take photos on their own. We headed by the Cleveland Brain Clinic and briefly into the World Market Center before being kicked out. I also sat in the car while Mike took some pics around the Smith Center so our car wouldn’t get towed. (The things we have to do…) Anyway, following photos, we headed to their reception at the Nine Fine Irishmen at New York, New York. Their friends and family gave some touching toasts, and a good time was had by all.

Their story…
“We met in 2002 at our local hometown’s hockey team game because his friend was dating my friend. We were standing in a group and he wordlessly started throwing ringolos in the air to catch in his mouth and then started throwing them my way and I would try to catch them in mine. We didn’t speak a word to each other but kept playing this silly (hard for me) game. Later that night he messaged me on the social media sight mIRC. We started talking and over the next few months learned we both had a really ridiculous sense of humor and imagination. We actually planned an elaborate wedding that we would be married on April 4th in the jungle and swing in on vines down the aisle and monkeys and penguins (wtf?) would be in attendance. (sidenote: for many years after this he gave me a ring pop sucker every April 4th) We had our first date on Valentines Day 2003. Dating your high school boyfriend into University was fun because we had a lot of the same classes but it was also hard because we started to grow apart. We broke up for 6 months in 2007 which was pretty much the most ridiculous break up because we were together a lot of the time and sneakily hooking up after bar nights out and feeling like bad asses. But it helped a lot with our problems and have been partners in crime again ever since.”

Proposal story…
“Shaggy and I have been together 11 years and people were always asking when we were going to get married. We were never in a rush because since we were together since we were teenagers we have been through so much we felt like we didn’t NEED to be married. We were just trying to stumble through life and figure out careers. We moved away from our beautiful little island Cape Breton to the mainland in a bigger city, Halifax where we are still stumbling but happy. Last year, on Canada Day weekend we were at our families cottage on Shorrts Lake, NS for the weekend and Shaggy had to work late that Saturday so he didn’t show up until around 10pm. I didn’t think it was unusual at all that it took record time for him to down a glass of Old Sam dark rum and coke but turns out he was loosening up for a reason. We were all sitting around on the back deck and he kept asking me to go down to the fire with him but in true Danielle fashion I was wining that I didn’t want to leave the party. He eventually convinced me and we made our way to bundle up down by the lake around the fire. He started reminiscing about all the great times we had together and how fun my family was and how he thought of them as his own and wanted to make it official. He gets down on one knee and lets keep in mind that he was REALLY late to the party and I was feeling no pain and blurt out “Are you serious? It’s about fucking time!” It was pitch black except for the fire and I couldn’t even see the ring on my finger so he had to get out his phone to put on the flashlight so I could see it. We had our own little celebration and made our way up to the party to tell everyone and celebratory drinks were poured. It was perfect in every single way for us. We were close enough to hear the crazy loons of my family but private enough that this moment was totally us and they had no idea what was going on.”

Congrats D&S! Please visit again soon!

Val & Chris’ Vintage Riverside Engagement Session

When Val contacted us way back when for her Chicago wedding, I knew we wanted to work with them. Not just because they are from Chicago, but because her email just made me happy. So, Val doesn’t actually have an engagement ring. Chris bought her an old truck. But the thing is, they live in Chicago, and the truck is in Riverside, California. Because Val wanted to include the truck in their e-session, they flew out to CA and that’s where we met up to do the session. We had so much fun. We wandered around downtown Riverside, and talked and got to know each other. We were chatting up back home Chicago suburbs and Chris happens to bring up my all time favorite Tinley Park dive, Mickey’s. Instant BFF’s. Their wedding is in the beginning of May in this badass venue in Chicago, and we cannot wait! These guys are awesome!

Eileen & Robert’s Our Lady of Las Vegas Fall Wedding

Per the usual, we are way behind on blogging. Eileen and Robert were referred to us by some friends of ours. You may recognize these beautiful ladies from this post from some months back. We instantly liked Eileen and Robert, and they had a gorgeous wedding day planned out. Their church was nothing short of spectacular, and they really did up the Silverstone Golf Resort for their reception.

They have a very cool story…
“Robert and Eileen are originally from California and grow up in the San Fernando Valley within a 5 mile radius of one another. They attended the same school at one point but never ran into one another. Robert moved to Las Vegas in 1993 with family when his father’s company re-located to Las Vegas. Eileen moved to Las Vegas in 2006 because she simply wanted change.

What started of as a roommate turned out to be me soul mate. The relationship evolved over time as they shared personal beliefs, thoughts, and history. They discovered common aspirations, goals, reflection of life, morals, values, and came from the same family background. About 8 months after living together as roommates a relationship was developed and the rest is happily ever after.”

Their engagement story…
“On Thanksgiving night in 2013 Robert and Eileen hosted dinner at their our home. After dinner, Robert attempted to get down on one knee (he tried to kick the chair away but his foot caught on the bottom of the chair) and said this is long over due. It was quite a SURPRISE FOR EVERYONE!

Meanwhile Alicia Keys, “Unthinkable” was playing and Eileen did not register this is their song. Their guests, both Robert’s family and Eileen had no idea the big question was coming. Robert popped the question and Eileen said yes. = It’s actually on video and quite funny!”

Congrats R&E!
