May will not come soon enough to be able to shoot Katie and Nic’s wedding. This was a hell of a day but a great day at that. Our original idea was to head to the Dry Lake Bed since they wanted some pictures of their vintage truck and Nic’s vespa. Well, we got to the lake bed and there is security looking for your “pit pass.” Well, obviously we didn’t have one so now what? Apparently they were holding races there that day…great…so being that we were just telling Katie that we should do her TTD at Nelson, Mike said, “Well then let’s go to Nelson now.” Sure! So off we went. Only one small problem, we had never been to Nelson…how the hell do we get there? So Mike pulls up “trusty” Google Maps…haha. As we’re driving down the 95, we all see a sign saying to turn left to go to Nelson, but NOOO, Google says to go to Searchlight and it will be by there. In the meantime, I am facebooking another photographer friend of ours trying to figure it out, calling my brother to look on the computer, Mike is trying to call another photog friend of ours…good times. So we get to Searchlight and turn onto Nipton Road…(Because that doesn’t sound like The Hills Have Eyes or anything) and sure enough all we see is a trailer park. At that point, we were like okay, let’s go to Chevron and ask someone and guess what folks? The sign that we all said to turn at. Yeah. (I’m not even going to get into the men and directions thing, this blog is called Mike L. even if I write the blogs…) ANYWAY, so we head back to go to the sign and turn there. After 3 hours of driving around we finally got there. It was awesome! We all bonded in the car, except for poor Nic who was following in the truck with no a/c but they were able to get pretty comfortable in front of the camera pretty quickly. After Nelson, we went to another dry lake bed off the 95 and got some pictures with the vespa then headed back into town. Katie and Nic had just gotten their garage and wall at their house tagged with graffiti so we headed back there to get a few before we called it a day. That was also really awesome…it is like their own mini art district. I also got to meet their puppies that we will have to get pictures of sometime. I am a sucker for dogs!
this was a long winded post but even if I kept writing I don’t think I could express how great the day was with them. We all had such a great time and the moral of the story is, I will drive next time! ![]()
